“It’s incredibly rewarding to have such a great team around me, and I take pride in knowing that we are improving the patient journey and experience."
Moses Ayoola oversees the Directorate of Estates, Facilities, PFI, and Capital Projects at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. Managing a team that includes both in-house staff and contracted services. He is responsible for a substantial revenue budget, as well as capital projects worth tens of millions of pounds annually.
Throughout his career, Moses and his team have received several prestigious accolades, with the most recent being Moses' award of a British Empire Medal in January 2024.
Moses has come a long way over the past 20 years. He began his career as a General Assistant within the NHS while studying for his first degree in Economics and a Masters in Management.
Reflecting on his journey, Moses said: “It’s been a good journey. I advise my mentees: ‘If I can do it, you can.’ The opportunities are there - take advantage of training opportunities, find a mentor, and put in the effort. With that, you can build a rewarding career.”
Moses finds great fulfilment in his work, adding: "There are many aspects I enjoy. It’s incredibly rewarding to have such a great team around me, and I take pride in knowing that we are improving the patient journey and experience.
“Additionally, my team and I help to directly and indirectly enhance the well-being and quality of life for staff, patients, and visitors, which gives me immense satisfaction."
A standout moment in Moses' career came in 2021 when he and his team were recognised for their outstanding work. After taking leadership of the team and contract, Moses and his colleagues turned things around and effectively led the strategic response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moses attributes much of his success to his values-based leadership and emphasises the importance of learning from mentors, communicating and working closely with colleagues, and the value of training for both himself and his team.
He said: “I value learning and development. I still remember the name of my first Training Manager, Dawn Cupid - she was the best I ever worked with.”
He also stressed the importance of tailored training programs: "Training opportunities are out there, and many companies offer a wealth of resources for their teams. However, it’s equally important to tailor the training offered to meet the specific needs of the workforce. When done right, training can be incredibly beneficial."
